Welcome to Fireside Lessons from the Canadian Farmhouse

Hello, and welcome!

I’m Charles Buurma, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my blog. I’m a husband, a father to three wonderful children, and the founder of The Farmhouse Collective a community of brands dedicated to fostering family, creativity, and purpose through timeless products and meaningful stories.

This blog is a space where I’ll share the lessons I’ve learned along the way—lessons on family, Christian faith, parenting, and the journey of growing up. My story is one of struggle and transformation. I was placed in foster care at a young age and adopted into a family that wasn’t always easy. My childhood was filled with hardship and challenges, but it also shaped who I am today and continues to influence my approach to life, family, and business.

Through my experiences, I’ve come to believe that even in the most difficult seasons, we can find valuable lessons that help us grow. I’ve learned that it’s not about the circumstances we face, but about how we respond to them, and how we choose to live intentionally and create strong, supportive relationships with the people we love most.

On this blog, you’ll find reflections on:

  • Parenting: How to build strong, supportive relationships with our children, even through the challenges.

  • Faith: How living out Christian faith in everyday moments can bring hope and direction, even during difficult times.

  • Childhood Advocacy: The importance of nurturing the innocence and joy of childhood.

  • Personal Growth: How overcoming adversity shapes our outlook on life and our ability to raise a family with love and wisdom.

I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned as a father, husband, and business owner. Through this blog, I hope to offer encouragement, practical advice, and the opportunity to reflect on what really matters in life.

Thanks for joining me here. Grab a cup of coffee (or tea!) and settle in as we explore the lessons that shape our lives and our families.

Go Boldly - Live Wisely,
Charles
